A celebration went awry for Pathan family of Juhapura on Wednesday when their eldest daughter was run over by a dumper near Nehru Foundation on Drive-in road.

Satellite police have registered an accident death case and are inquiring about its owner as the driver fled after the incident.

According to the police, Asma Ayub Khan Pathan, 23, was passing from Drive-in road along with her younger sister Sabina, 14, when a dumper hit her from behind and dashed her against the tarmac.

The Dumper then ran over her.

Asma, a resident of Khadim Society in Juhapura and a second-year LLB student at Gujarat University, was out to celebrate the birthday of her younger sister.

Her father said the sisters left home at around 6.30 pm and said that they will be late for they wanted to spend the birthday with nearby relatives and friends from Sabina’s school. But late evening they got a call informing them of the accident.

“She was rushed to Sanjeevani Hospital at Vastrapur by emergency service, but she was declared brought dead by the staff on duty. Her body was later sent to V S Hospital for post-mortem. We have contacted RTO for getting the name and number of the truck owner,” said a Satellite police official.

Some eyewitnesses, however, said that the victim along with two other youths met with the accident when they were triple-riding on a scooty.

“The victim was sitting last among three persons on a Honda Activa. When they were passing by CEE, the mishap took place.

The girl fell from the scooter and the dumper ran over her,” an eye-witness said.

The police officials are not taking the eye-witnesses statements into account due to lack of any physical proof.
